Welcome, from the Lions of 105A
Who are the Lions?
Lions Clubs are an International network of people from all walks of life who come together to answer the needs that challenge communities across the world. With 45,000 Clubs and 1.35 million members this makes Lions Clubs International the world’s largest Service Club organization.
Lions have a dynamic history; founded in 1917 we are best known for fighting blindness - it’s part of our heritage, as well as our work today. The Lions SightFirst Programme saves the sight of thousands by conducting vision screenings, equipping hospitals and clinics, distributing medicine and raising awareness of eye disease throughout the world. We work together to eradicate blindness.
Lions also serve youth and community projects that help local children and schools. There are a number of international programmes including the Peace Poster Contest, Youth Camps & Exchanges and a Football programme. The Leo Programme provides personal development through youth volunteer opportunities and lives up to its motto of “Leadership, Experience and Opportunity”.
Since 1968 the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has awarded millions to humanitarian needs. Lions are helping communities following natural disasters by providing for immediate needs: food, water, clothing and medical supplies following up with long-term reconstruction projects. The Financial Times has ranked Lions Clubs International Foundation the “best among non-government organisations (NGOs) worldwide with which to work”
In District 105A there is a network of 88 Clubs with over 1,800 members all of whom are dedicated to trying to make life a little better for those less fortunate. Lions volunteer for many different kinds of community projects such as caring for the environment, feeding the hungry and aiding seniors and the disadvantaged. Lions are not limited by continents or restricted to certain causes - they help wherever, whenever and however they can.
We also have a good fun social side within our clubs - from dinners to picnics, ten-pin bowling or any chance to get together and enjoy one another’s company and friendship. When you join Lions, you join a global service network. Whilst you’re not only helping your own community locally, but can also contribute to Lions community efforts in other countries and have fun at the same time.
If you yourself, or with your family, travel the world, you will always have the comfort of knowing that you will be made welcome by fellow Lions locally. This may be just of a social nature or, in the case of an emergency, their help in overcoming whatever the problem. If you would like to know more about how to join then click on this web link.
