57th Europa Forum
57th Europa Forum
The 57th Europa Forum is being held this year in Maastricht, The Netherlands, from 13th – 15th October 2011 in the MECC Maastricht.
Maastricht is a unique, lively city - charming, compact and international. It is located in the Maas-Rijn Euregion; an area that transcends its borders with the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
For details visit the website, www.europaforum2011.nl
What is its purpose?
The Purposes and Objects of the Forum are outlined in the “Rules of Procedure” which govern the way the Forum operates, namely:
The Europa Forum shall be an annual meeting for all the Lions from the European Countries irrespective of different nationalities and cultures to meet together for the following purposes:
i) To promote fellowship and mutual understanding amongst all the members of Lions Clubs located in Europe,
ii) To furnish an open forum and market place for the exchange of experience and for the development of new ideas on Club and District administration and on Lions’ activities in a multicultural society in Europe,
iii) To promote the objectives of Lions Clubs International and to train European leaders in lionistic skills,
iv) To stimulate participation in International and other Conventions,
v) To receive reports from LCI representatives to the organisations with headquarters in Europe such as the Council of Europe, WHO, FAO, UNESCO,UNICEF, UN Office in Geneva and UN Office in Vienna, and to discuss their contents,
vi) To promote the Lions Clubs International Foundation,
vii) To provide an opportunity for open discussion of possibilities and the assessment of European needs for joint service activities in a multicultural society in Europe for the benefit of all people,
viii) To promote and implement the current goals of the President of the Association.
The Forum shall achieve these purposes by making recommendations to all Multiple Districts, Districts and Clubs but shall have no power to superimpose or create any governing structure over and above the regular Multiple District, District and Clubs organisations or to collect dues.
In addition to the above, there are two youth competitions run at the Europa Forum. They are the Young Ambassador and Young Musician competitions and each member state of the Europa Forum is invited each year to submit a candidate from their area. The candidates that go forward from MD105 are the winners of our multiple district finals.
The Europa Forum also holds a number of workshops and seminars and there are sessions and opportunities to meet in person with our current International Leadership. See the attached provisional programme for Maastrict.
Who runs the Forum?
The local Host Committee is responsible for the overall running of the Forum. It reports to the Europa Forum Programme Committee in the February and immediately before the Forum.
The overall performance of the Forum is assessed each year by a Monitoring Committee which is chaired by an International Director from Europe, appointed by the International President.
What are the responsibilities of the District Officer?
a) To act as the specialist adviser to the District on matters relating to Europa Forum by maintaining links with the MD Committee Chairperson.
b) To actively promote the awareness of the Europa Forum to all Clubs in the District.
c) To identify potential attendees to the Europa Forum and to forward details to the MD Committee Chairperson.
d) To ensure potential attendees have details of the registration information, social functions, partner trips, travel and accommodation arrangements.
e) To encourage attendance at the Forum so that MD105 can play a full part as a member country.
f) To liaise with the District Music Competition Officer to ensure details of the District winner are passed onto the Deputy Chairperson of the MD Europa Forum Committee, who has a special responsibility for running the MD Musical Competition (normally in April each year)
g) To liaise with the District Youth Exchange Officer and the MD Youth Exchange Officer to ensure opportunities for Youth Exchange are discussed at the Europa Forum
h) To liaise with the District Young Ambassador Officer to ensure details of the District winner are passed on to the MD Young Ambassador Officer
